Bev’s Homemade Ice Cream & Café
Bev’s Homemade Ice Cream & Café has been a Richmond institution since 1998, serving high-quality ice cream, sweets, and coffee. We offer traditional flavors like Vanilla, Chocolate, and Strawberry, as well as our own creations like Espresso Oreo and Black Raspberry. There’s something here for everyone, including dairy-free sorbet, homemade baked goods, and coffee concoctions. We are one of Richmond’s most established and well-known ice cream shops, and we are proud to serve generations of customers. For over two decades, we have catered to families, including those who now have their own children or grandchildren to bring back to us. It gives us great pride and joy to serve you.
Beverly, our owner and founder, began her ice cream career by attending the Culinary Institute of America and opening a small chain of ice cream shops in New England before closing and moving to Virginia. Bev devoted her time and energy to her beloved West Cary Street shop, which is located directly across from the historic Byrd Movie Theater on the strip of “mom and pop” stores known as “Carytown.” We sell our homemade ice cream in-store as well as wholesale to other small businesses in the Richmond area, such as Joe’s Inn Bon-Air, Crossroads Coffee & Ice Cream, and the Nutty Buttery. We are grateful for the love and support of our devoted family and friends over the years, and we are eager to embrace new ideas and inspiration in the coming year.
Reviews
- Rachel Z – One of the best local ice cream parlors! There are a lot of great classic flavors that range from creamy to refreshing sorbets. The raspberry chip I got was a nice balance of both.
- Ashley DeWitt – Best ice cream, they make it in house. My favorite is a scoop of black raspberry and a scoop of the amaretto gelato. Service is always impeccable, and place is really clean.
- Gautam Chatterjee – Try the salted caramel it’s very tasty and quite generous cone portions. The ice cream is dense and not fluffy so it does not melt quickly. So many awesome flavors and a great dessert place.
- Joan E Justice – Great service, easily set up for flow and current situation. Excellent homemade ice cream with real hot fudge and made from scratch whip cream. Highly recommend.
- Sierra Taylor – I haven’t tried all the ice cream places in Richmond, but this is one of my go-to favorites. I love their oreo espresso ice cream and homemade whip cream. Portion sizes are large, and the flavors are perfect. You can’t go wrong here!
