We realized we needed a home in the late 2000s and embarked on an adventure to find one in the heart of Richmond, VA. We wanted a setting that was beautifully classic, spacious, and located in one of the most interesting neighborhoods in town.

Our new house even had a pedigree! It was finished in 1887 as the Masonic Temple… and boy, did it have a life! The Richmond newspapers have written extensively about the elegant affairs and events that have taken place here over the years. Even Theodore Roosevelt, the namesake of our “Roosevelt Grand Ballroom,” visited the property in 1905 while on a tour of the southern states with his wife.

Today, entering the Grand Foyer with its gorgeously painted sky and cloud ceilings, as well as the murals and oil paintings, feels like entering a doorway to a glorious past.

Our Roosevelt Ballroom has a magnificent 30-foot ceiling, three hypnotic Holland imported chandeliers, and stunning floor-to-ceiling palladium windows. Smaller parties, cocktail hours for receptions, and a beautiful wedding ceremony for up to 140 guests can all be accommodated in the Adams Room.

With our advantageous downtown location in the new Arts District, parking is convenient and central to most downtown hotel rooms that are required by any of your out-of-town guests.

With a 30-foot ceiling, three magnificent chandeliers, an ample stage, floor to ceiling arched windows, and a spacious balcony, this magnificent room is The Renaissance’s largest event space. Imagine yourself dancing on the original hardwood floors. Whether you want to host a stand-up reception (up to 500 people) or a seated affair (up to 250 people), the Roosevelt Ballroom will be remembered fondly by you and your guests.

You will feel the grandeur of a bygone era as you walk through this spacious entrance area. Sky and cloud ceilings, murals, oil paintings, and tall crown moldings all give your guests a stunning first impression and hint of the elegance in store for your special occasion.

The Adams Room is one of three lovely rooms available to you at The Renaissance. From 1890 to 1972, it housed the Grand Secretary’s office of the Masonic Temple. Today, it will host your wedding ceremony, provide seating for your cocktail hour, or serve as the ideal location for a small group dinner.
