1. Triangle Rock Club

Triangle Rock Club was founded by two former Force Recon Marines who shared a love of adventure and climbing. After the military and their mountaineering skills took them around the world and back, Andrew and Luis began to envision a place where a community could be formed around a shared passion for rock climbing.

Triangle Rock Club’s first location in Morrisville, North Carolina, opened its doors in December 2007, making visions and dreams a reality. As the company’s leadership grew, so did its overall size. Triangle Rock Club opened its second location in Raleigh in 2013, followed by a 17,000-square-foot expansion in Morrisville. The company opened a branch in Fayetteville in the fall of 2014. Triangle Rock Club opened its first out-of-state location in Richmond, Virginia, in early 2018. In 2019, the company opened its fifth location in Durham, North Carolina.

Climbing options include bouldering, auto-belayed climbing, top-rope climbing, and lead climbing. Bouldering and auto-belayed climbing do not necessitate any special training. Participants must pass a certification test to top-rope and lead belay.

Visitors aged 12 and up can sign up for a $5 on-the-spot, 10-15-minute top-rope belay clinic facilitated by our front-desk staff. After completing this clinic, you may take the top-rope belay test at the discretion of the staff. These on-demand clinics are available depending on staff availability (typically weeknights and weekends).

First-time visitors should sign up for our Intro to Rope Climbing class. It lasts an hour and covers both the fundamentals of top-rope climbing movement and top-rope belaying. Because class size is limited, we recommend reserving your spot as soon as possible.

  1. DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION: Expand access to climbing by providing facilities and programs that foster relationships across socioeconomic, racial, ethnic, and cultural lines, as well as for people of all abilities.
  2. YOUTH ENGAGEMENT: Introduce young people from a variety of backgrounds to climbing and create a supportive and inclusive pipeline for ongoing engagement with the sport and the community.
  3. ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION: Preserve outdoor climbing areas by conserving land and making climbing accessible to all.

Climbing For Change was founded by pro climber and former TRC member Kai Lightner with the goal of addressing racial disparities in climbing and diversifying the climbing industry. This organization’s mission is to connect underserved communities with people and organizations working to increase minority participation in rock climbing and the outdoor adventure industry. TRC will collaborate with Climbing For Change in Fall 2020 through a t-shirt and sticker fundraiser at all of our gyms, with all net profits going directly to Climbing For Change. In addition, we are sponsoring a Mile-High Climb in Richmond in the fall of 2020, with all proceeds benefiting the organization.
